How to Ride a Moped/Scooter

From my experience, the key is basically finding your balance. Just be aware that the first time you hop on you might be a little shaky, and find turns a bit difficult at first.
Just sit down, give the bike a little bit of gas by pulling your right hand back, and practice going forward, stopping, repeat.
After this, get yourself into a big open space, like a car park (make sure its deserted though). Once there, just practice going around in big circles, making them tighter and tighter as you go. This will help you find your centre of balance.
Just remember to lean into the turns, and look wherever you’re going.
It can be a bit daunting, but after this you should feel a bit more safe on the road.

Local Mechanic
Sometimes, your local mechanic may have been sold some old mopeds for spares and repairs. For a few bucks you might be able to convince them to fix one of them up and sell it to you. If you’re strapped for cash, this could be a good alternative.
Scrapyard
Otherwise, you might consult your local scrap dealer! These guys sometimes have something you can either bring home and fix yourself, or bring to your local mechanic to fix up. Just make sure you check your state’s laws on taking stuff from scrapheaps!
Build Your Own?
This is a method for the more adventurous. To be fair, going with this method means you’ll actually get an authentic ‘moped’, that is, a motorized bike with pedals.

Hi Jason, moped is actually quite an old fashioned name. As you can tell from the article Introduction, it used to refer to old-school bikes with a small motor and pedals.
However, nowadays, ‘moped’ refers to scooters and anything under 150cc.
